What happens when I contact The Rowan?
(Please do not contact us by email in an emergency as the account is not monitored 24/7)
If you call the Freephone line you will speak to one of our Rowan Nurses. During the call it will be necessary for the member of staff to ask you some questions. These will include asking for…
- Whether you are safe or at any risk
- Your name
- Your date of birth
- Your home address
- Your telephone number / safe contact number
- The date and time of the assault (this may be recent or have been some time in the past)
- Some brief details about the assault
- Whether you think you might need emergency contraception?
- Whether you want the police to be informed? (Adults Only)
- Whether you would like a forensic medical examination? (Where this is applicable)
Not all of these questions have to be answered over the telephone, and all answers are treated in confidence, but the more information shared will allow the most appropriate support to be given to you.
During the call, the member of staff will inform you of the support and services provided at The Rowan and those available via other agencies. If necessary, an appointment can then be made for you to visit The Rowan to meet with one of our Team.
Outside of office hours The Rowan has a 24-hour, 365 days a year on call service. After office hours you are put through to an operator who will ask only for your name and a contact telephone number. These details will remain confidential, and be passed immediately to one of our Rowan Nurses who will call you back and provide support in the same way as already described during office hours.
